The Relocation of Navajo People

Black Mesa / Big Mountain, Arizona

I constructed this page on the forced relocation of traditional Navajo people living in the remote areas of Black Mesa and Big Mountain, in Northern Arizona. Personally, I am far from knowing the entire complexity of this issue, and how people are truly affected. But It is my honest belief that the Traditional Dine'h are resisting relocation by continuing efforts of the U.S. Government. For the people suffering at Black Mesa & Big Mountain, there are endless trials. I pray for the Dine'h Resisters  in their efforts. It is my testimony, that what is going on, needs to be stopped.

Bo Peep's Hogan - The issue, known to some as "Big Mountain", is barely reported, and when it is, it is clouded by propaganda and disinformation. This site is my humble attempt to rectify that.

Environmental Threats to

Black Mesa / Big Mountain

bullet

Sacred Land Film Project - Black Mesa - Every day, 3.3 million gallons of pure groundwater are pumped from the Navajo Aquifer, which flows beneath the Hopi and Navajo Nations in northeastern Arizona. Peabody Coal Company uses the water to transport coal from a strip-mine on Black Mesa to a power plant in the Mojave Desert, 273 miles to the west. Vernon Masayesva of Black Mesa Trust, says, "One billion gallons of our ancient, sacred water, mined to slurry coal, fouled beyond reclamation, evaporates each year in Nevada's desert skies."

(NRDC) Drinking Water Jeopardized in Arizona's Black Mesa Region - The sole source of drinking water for the Hopi and many Navajo is showing signs of serious decline after years of pumping by coal company.
