Scenic Cow Pies of the Mohave Desert

Here are some interesting photos from the Mohave Desert in #SouthernNevada on the East side of Las Vegas and North of Mesquite Nevada near the Beaver Dam Wilderness and the Virgin River Gorge.

Devonshire Cows do well in the #Mohave and they will eat just about anything that is edible. On the East Coast it only takes an acre to sustain one cow. Out in desert this way it requires about 100 acres per cow so ranches out West have to be BIG.

More evidence on the dry parched Earth.

These are Joshua Trees with the Arizona Strip off in the background with snow on the peaks.

Joshua Tress are truly majestic and rare in the world but deck the Mohave/Mojave like sentinels in their own Kingdom. The #JoshuaTree is the crown jewel of the Mojave while the Saguaro dominates the Sonoran Desert. Both deserts lay next to each other covering huge swaths of Arizona, California, and small areas in Utah and Nevada. All images captured on my Sony Alpha #A7R.

I don’t always post my best photos on here because I post what I enjoy. I was practicing with the #SonyA7r yesterday and it’s very different than what I’m used to shooting with a cropped sensor. First thing I noticed is how much more difficult it is to nail manual focus on a 55mm lens because of how narrow the depth of field is on a full frame – it’s paper thin when the lens is stopped between f1.4-2.8. I’m shooting with my favorite Porst 55mm F1.4 and it’s a little soft wide open. I may head out today for a few hours to practice some more. #blackandwhite #A7R #SonyAlpha ~ via Instagram:

So when I captured this photo in 2007 was the last time I was shooting with Nikon Dslrs before progressing to Micro 4/3 Cameras which I still love and appreciate. I captured this scene in #MonumentValley which is the heart of the #Navajo – whom have been good friends to me over the years… Tomorrow, I’m picking up a 36 Megapixel #SonyAlpha #A7R which will allow to me capture landscapes like these but bordering on #MediumFormat quality. I will continue to capture beautiful images for all of you, my friends and relatives. Thank you! ??? ~ via Instagram:
